Afghanistan Digger proposes

After a six-month deployment in Afghanistan, Warrant Officer Martyn Voormeulen and his 200 fellow colleagues arrived in Brisbane airport, ready to relax and see loved ones after their time away. However, Warrant Officer Voormeulen had other things on his mind.

Upon seeing his girlfriend of six years Jeanette McNeily, he got down on one knee and pulled an engagement ring out of his pocket in front of a huge crowd of onlookers. He had a speech prepared but as soon as he presented the engagement ring he had an answer from Jeanette.

"As soon as I pulled out the ring box it was “Oh my God, Oh my God… it minimised what I was able to shoot out," Warrant Officer Voormeulen said.

He further went on to explain that due to the tough couple of years they been through, Jeanette’s strength of will and resilience had made him realise that he wanted to devote the rest of his life to her.

"And over the last six months we have grown even closer," he said. "You know how they say; distance makes the heart grow fonder."

According to reports “Military precision” is said to be the protocol for the wedding.
